Client of Nicola
Nicola Meldrum is an experienced family law solicitor in England and Wales, advising clients on all aspects of divorce, separation and private family law. She specialises in financial disputes arising from divorce and relationship breakdown, including complex and high-value cases.
Nicola regularly acts for clients in matters involving substantial assets, international elements, complex trust structures and family business interests. She has significant expertise in advising on partnership interests and partnership annuities, including their treatment and valuation on divorce, and the financial implications of partnership structures within professional practices and family businesses. She acts for a wide range of clients, including professionals, business owners and individuals with complex financial arrangements.
She also advises on children law issues following relationship breakdown, including cases involving allegations of domestic abuse. Nicola assists with child arrangements disputes, including where a child will live, contact with parents and extended family, and parental responsibility issues. She is experienced in international child law matters, including cases with cross-border relocation or custody disputes.
Nicola takes a practical and sensitive approach, helping parents resolve disputes through negotiation or mediation where possible, while providing robust representation in court when required. Her experience ensures that children’s welfare remains the priority, and she provides clear guidance to parents navigating complex family situations.
Nicola has a wealth of experience representing clients who are victims of domestic abuse, including coercive and controlling behaviour, emotional abuse, financial abuse, psychological abuse and physical abuse. She regularly advises on protective injunctions, including non-molestation orders and occupation orders, and assists clients with urgent and emergency applications where immediate court intervention is required.
She works closely with support organisations and specialist coaches, enabling her to take a trauma-informed and victim-focused approach to domestic abuse cases. This experience means Nicola is particularly well placed to understand the challenges faced by survivors and to provide clear, compassionate, and practical legal advice.
In addition, Nicola advises on cohabitation disputes, including claims under TOLATA, and assists clients with pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements, helping individuals protect personal and family wealth both before and during marriage.
Nicola provides early legal advice, including guidance prior to separation or the commencement of court proceedings, helping clients understand their options and make informed decisions at an early stage. She also advises on issues arising after an order has been made, including the enforcement and variation of financial orders and child arrangements orders.
Nicola is known for her practical, sensitive, and strategic approach, focusing on achieving outcomes that protect her clients’ safety, financial security, and long-term wellbeing. She provides clear and transparent advice on costs from the outset, ensuring clients understand the likely scope of work and the options available to them at each stage.
Nicola is a member of Resolution and is committed to resolving disputes constructively wherever possible, while providing robust representation where court proceedings are required.

A huge thank you. I cannot articulate quite how much you have all been my pillar of strength through this journey and I will be eternally grateful. I become disillusioned with the family court system almost every day, but you picked me up and encouraged me to keep fighting for what I believed in.
