Good Divorce Week

Group of three penguins with umbrellas

This week is Resolution’s Good Divorce Week which provides an opportunity to highlight the need for family justice professionals to better support families going through separation. With the family justice system, including the family court at breaking point, caused by delays and a lack of resources, often families are left uncertain as to outcomes during a time that is very difficult for them.

As a Resolution member and also somebody who sits on Resolution’s National and Parenting After Parting Committees, along with my colleagues we are dedicated to helping families avoid going through the family court system in order to resolve family issues where possible, whether that is divorce, separation, finances or children matters. The family court should only ever be a last resort and there are other alternative options that are available that can be far less damaging, especially for children. For example, at Rayden Solicitors, we have Mediators, Collaborative Lawyers and Arbitrators who offer such options.

An integral part of Resolution is its members’ Code of Practice that confirms a commitment to clients to resolve matters sensibly, to reduce conflict where possible and keep the interests of the children at the forefront. The Code is not just a set of ideas, but it provides guidance on how to work practically, focusing on avoiding inflammatory language, acting with honesty and integrity, promoting communication and collaboration where possible and using our experience and knowledge to guide clients through the options available to them.

Good Divorce Week is about raising awareness of the Code, encouraging solutions that work best for the family. This is also the approach we take at Rayden Solicitors – championing change in our family justice system, whilst putting our clients’ needs at the forefront of our work.
